Updated Chinese Standard for Food Contact Materials

Are you updated on the revised Chinese Standard for Silicone Food Contact Materials?
A new Chinese Standard for Food Contact Silicone Rubber Materials and Products, GB 4806.16-2025, was issued on 2 September 2025 which takes effect on 2 September 2026. Currently, silicone is covered by GB 4806.11-2016 (Rubber Materials and Products for Food Contact), but silicone was excluded from the scope of GB 4806.11 when this was updated in 2023.
Key updates in 4806.16-2025 include:
Revised test conditions: Testing for potassium permanganate (KMnO₄) consumption and heavy metals (measured as Pb) is now performed at 60 °C for 2 hours – previously only 0.5 hours
VOC testing: A new test for volatile organic compounds (VOC) has been introduced, following the same conditions and limits as the German BfR XV standard
New fat simulant: Vegetable oil is now required as food simulant for fatty foods instead of 50 % ethanol
AVK GUMMI is happy to announce that our silicone materials, complying with GB 4806.11-2016 until today, have passed the tests according to the new GB 4806.16-2025. Therefore, these materials can continue to be used when GB 4806.16-2025 takes effect on 2 September 2026. We have updated our documents of compliance (DoC) accordingly.
